Emily Elgar

Psychological thriller novelist

The Herd

You should never judge how someone chooses to raise their child.

Author's Note

Emily got the idea for The Herd while heavily pregnant, listening to her husband James and their birth doula Sophie debate vaccination choices in their garden.

She went on to speak to parents, friends and family about vaccines, finding a shared fear of doing the wrong thing for those they love.

Emily and her husband chose to vaccinate their sons, and wrote much of the novel during the first 2020 lockdown, struck by how individual choices can affect others so profoundly.

Praise for The Herd

A genuine rollercoaster that asks big moral questions with beautifully drawn characters.

Will have book clubs across the country in hot debate! Brilliant.
Compelling and nuanced. A hugely impressive page-turner
It is hard to imagine a more timely novel. A fascinating exploration of all sides of a particularly knotty, politicized issue.

It would be lovely to hear from you
